Helpful Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can diabetes be cured?

Type 1 Diabetes and Diabetes Insipidus do not have a permanent cure currently. However, many patients achieve remission (meaning blood sugar levels return to non-diabetic range without medication) of Type 2 Diabetes through intensive efforts like weight loss, diet counseling, and physical fitness guidelines compliance. Our Diabetes Center’s focus is on achieving the best possible quality of life and control, regardless of type.

– Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, often diagnosed during childhood, where the immune system attacks cells that produce insulin. This condition requires Insulin Therapy.

– Type 2 Diabetes is a metabolic disorder where the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or it become insulin-resistant. It’s often linked to lifestyle factors and can be managed initially through Diet Counseling and Physical Fitness plans.

Yes, you should. Gestational Diabetes screening is a standard part of prenatal care, typically done between weeks 24 and 28. If diagnosed, our Diabetes Center offers specialized Diabetes Consultation and Diet Counseling to protect both mother and baby through careful management.

For those with stable diabetes, we usually recommend getting a full Diabetes Consultation with our endocrinologist every 3-6 months, depending on your A1C levels, your current medication, or if you’ve started Insulin Therapy. It could also depend on whether you’re experiencing complications like specific skin signs of diabetes.

We are a PhilHealth accredited hospital and partnered with many HMO providers in the Philippines. PhilHealth covers some of the checkups, lab tests, and medicines through the YAKAP (Konsulta) and GAMOT programs. Their case rates may also cover other inpatient and outpatient care. For HMOs, it depends on your plan. It’s best to ask your HMO provider directly and obtain a Letter of Authorization (LOA) for covered procedures.
