Unihealth-Southwoods Hospital and Medical Center, a true advocate for the health and wellness of its surrounding communities, supported World Antibiotic Awareness Week on November 13, 2018 by conducting a lay forum. Nursing Training Officer, Mr. Kevin Sante, RN, served as resource speaker. Mr. Sante imparted knowledge to the attendees by discussing a brief history of antibiotics and how antibiotic resistance can result in higher medical cost, longer hospital stays, and mortality.

The lecture, which was attended by the nursing and admin staff and some patient-relatives, was a timely reminder on how to responsibly use antibiotics and of the importance of completing the prescribed antibiotic treatment even if one feels better.

Dr. Reolito Perez, USHMC’s founding member and Hospital Administrator and Chief Nurse, Ms. Teresita Alcantara, were in attendance to support the awareness campaign.
